Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president, and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for health care, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her name is well-known due to her direct questions to Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
